Home decorating using colour
Wall and ceiling do not, of course, have a monopoly on colour. Floors, too, can be transformed with brilliant colour. Rug designers already know this, and there are many vibrant contemporary carpets and rugs on the market to brighten up a wooden or other hard floor. Fitted carpet is also available in brilliant colour. There has been an idea prevalent for many decades that bright red or green or blue on floor will make a room look smaller.
On the contrary, it can draw attention to the full size of the room, because the colour leads the eye right to the edge. Fitted carpet in drab or muted shades is safe, but it can drain energy from a room. A bright carpet, on the other hand, can enliven the entire room, giving punch and character.
One thing which cannot be denied about bright colour is that it has character. Because of this, you can use it to rediscover corners of your home that you had forgotten or discounted. Small spaces such as hallway or landing, an alcove or the end of a passage, can be transformed from dull emptiness to places with character of their own. Indeed, if you are at first uncertain about using bright colour, these corners give you an opportunity yo experiment on a small scale before planning larger projects.
