hello and hi,
I’ve been working on an Executive Maisonette renovation recently and come across some interesting information regarding what can and can’t be done on the roof for the balcony. My client is interested to install a polycarbonate roof with Timber Supported and i call up the HDB officer and check with their on the rules and regulation. let me try and remember and let me quote from what he said ” Normally, due to safety reason polycarbonate roof will not be approve for installation at balcony and because polycarbonate emit toxic fuse when caught on fire. And if you are interested to install glass panels roof with timber supported at the maisonette balcony, HDB will request you to engage P.E to draw and endorse the construction details to the HDB architect department for approval. But they do not guarantee that it will be approve.
For your info. The standard approve item for the maisonette is clay roof tiles awning at the balcony.
If you need more information regarding approve works to be done for your HDB you can always visit
or call them at the hot line

The HDB officer will be glad to answer your question
