Current Trends in Double Vanities and Bathroom Design

When it comes to setting new interior design trends, southern California tends to be a major national leader. Some of the most innovative and charming design trends begin in this beautiful state. To the average Californian home designer, every room in the house is important: even hall closets are meticulously designed to be fashionable and accommodating. For rooms like the kitchen or the bathroom, the current trend seems to cling to the philosophy that “bigger is better.” These rooms are growing ever more expansive while house sizes are remaining relatively stable. With these larger rooms, home designers really get the chance to show off their artistry and creativity.
You see, the current bathroom design “trend” is really more of a “shift” in perceptions: the modern bathroom is not so much a hygienic “task center” anymore as much as it is a place to admire, relax in, and entertain your guests. Many of these rooms are becoming almost spa-like in their presentation, with ornate double bathroom vanities, steam showers, and even small breakfast bars in some master bathrooms!
Double vanities seem to be an especially popular trend. Sometimes called “his” and “her” vanities, these bathroom features provide dual sinks and plenty of shelf space to accommodate two users simultaneously, often with room to spare. This gives a bathroom an added sense of “community,” as you and your partner can talk about your plans for the day as you comb your hair or brush your teeth.
Another current trend is to go with non-porous countertops like natural travertine surfaces. These countertops are easier to clean and keep out harmful microorganisms, which tend to hide out in cracks and holes in ordinary countertops. The fact that many of these travertine countertops look absolutely gorgeous is just a bonus. This just goes to show you that sometimes interior design trends are not only aesthetically-conscious, but health-conscious as well. Stumble It!

You have some excellent ideas for bathrooms. That has been one of the recurring themes in my own life–looking for a way to make our bathrooms and our kitchen look really glorious, even though those rooms are much too small. One of the glories of the Internet, though, is that there is absolutely no dearth of ideas. Right now I have no idea of what I will ultimately do, but I keep hoping I will come up with something really slick.
