I have design countless wall feature design, kitchen cabinet wardrobe and so on………. this past years. And laminate finish is cheaper and durable compare to veneer finish. and some other products. Just last week I have receive EDL laminates new cater-log from the supplier. They have recently launch a set of new color laminates ” Piano gloss” range. They ever come out with their own laminate edge trimming to match the laminate.

6 ways to enhance the room appearance by paint colour

I have been asked many times about how to use paint to enhance the appearance of the room. be it to heighten low ceiling or how to make the room more interesting color can be use in such a way like cosmetic make up – highlight the good feature of the face or camouflage any blemishes by using more face powder onto it.

As interior designer or interior decorator we usually ask question like Are you going to have a new set of furniture for the room or are you going to keep the existing one. and further more discuss what color to be use for the room.

What happen to when you have a low ceiling?

1.light colour or white colour for the ceiling would be best to use when you having low ceiling and more of the time white colour is wisely used to add height to the room. let me give you a example when you look into the sky of white cloud compare to black and dark cloud do you notice that the dark cloud appear to be lower and closer to you.

2.Our eyes always playing trick on us but sometime it is good as it can create the illusion of height when the colour continuing on to the cornice and the skirting as it extended the wall height.

3. Sometime architectural feature such as dado rail or wall panels make the room shorten and Camouflage the detail or hiding the problem by painting them the same colour would make the room heighten.

How to make you room interesting ?

4. Horizontal and vertical stripes are some simple way to make your room more interesting and if you add more excitement to the stripe you can always make the stripe in differ width. Remember it will be more work.

5. The most common way is to paint one wall into differ colour from the rest of the walls as to throw it out of balance. Remember when are you going to place your furniture and you do not want your wardrobe cover the wall in differ colour.

What happen when you got an awkward room?

6.A beam along the ceiling or a sloping ceiling do hard to make a decision on how to paint the ceiling. Normally i would paint the beam with the same colour of the ceiling but if you get a sloping ceiling next to the wall the best way is to paint it with one colour and it will solve the problem do not where to where the paint ends.

If your room is too dark, too light, too small, too large, too tall, or too narrow, careful colour choices can correct the balance. The key thing to bear in mind is that dark or warm hues seem to advance us, while lighter cooler colours appear to recede.

Light colours reflect more light, making them appear to be further away, so they are ideal for making small rooms or areas seem larger. Dark colours have the opposite effect and can be used to draw in parts of a room.

We can play with these effects to disguise awkward proportions. For example, by painting a ceiling and the trim below it the same colour. Painting a ceiling a bright white is a common means of creating the sense of higher ceiling. Similarly, dark floors will draw the eye downward. Painting them lighter and cooler focuses out attention higher, making the room seem taller.

as we make more demands on the different spaces in our homes-using part of a room as office or media zone, or opting for informal dining areas rather than having a room dedicated to eating – colour can help to define these areas. making them separate but part of the whole. for exampple, using a different but harmonizing colour on a feature wall behind a dining area will visually separate it from an adjacent seating it from an adjacent seating area without creating a jarring scheme.

Colour can also be used to change the light and mood in a room. In dark room that recieves little natural light, try sunny tones such as yellow, gold, pinks, and reds. colour in warm and cozy pattern make a large or featureless room feel welcoming. Cool colours such pale blues and greens will create restful feeling of light and space. Deep red is hot and passionate, stimulating the senses,and is ideal for dining area.

Experiment with using colours to focus the eye on different areas in a room, such as welcoming red sofa or bed coverlet, or on a favorite artwork on a feature wall.

Which colour? Which room?

Red is rousing, aggressive colour not often used in adults’ bedrooms for the simple reason that it is not conducive to restful repose. Yellow is, likewise, not a ‘bedroom’ colour because it is believed to be over stimulating, create turmoil and encouraging intellectual activity – not what bedrooms are designed for. Hotel bedrooms are rarely if ever decorative in yellow, because such rooms apparently prove unpopular with guests compare with, say, predominantly pink rooms. In fact, if you listen to the theorists. there is no brilliant colour that is going to give you a refreshing night’s sleep.

The answer to this conundrum is a pragmatic one. If you want to use a bright colour in the bedroom, make sure you surround it with white, pale neutrals or clean pale shades. Limit the bright colour to areaslike wardrobe doors or section of one wall, and see if you get any sleep. Alternatively, use furnishings and accessories to give the room accents of bright colour – big pillows for reading, for example, or a brilliantly coloured bed cover. Or hang a large bright picture (or a collection of small ones) on one wall.

Red and Orange are consider excellent colours for dining rooms and dining areas because, being inherently physical rather than intellectual colours. they encourage the eating and disgesting of food( orange is even thought to make you hungry). Certainly rich, deep shades of red have been used for centuries in dining rooms of grand historic houses. In a kitchen, however, red may make things seem too hot for comfort.

Green, being at the centre of the spectrum and also the most common colour in nature, is considered balancing influence. It is therefore suitable for any room in the house. Blue is likewise a calming colour and immediately provokes images of sky, sea and wide open spaces. The segment of the spectrum containing the cool colours. from blue through green, is popular for kitchens, while yellow, an optimistic and creative colour, is considered a positive influence in a study or home office.

Blue is a popular colour for bathrooms because of its watery associations, and with warm lighting it is not unflattering. However, the most popular colour for bathroom is white, with its connotations of fresh cleanliness. Accessorising with brightly colour towels, soaps or picture can stop a plain white bathroom from seeming clinical.

When choosing colours for your rooms and psces, give some thought to your home as a whole. Colour wants to flow arond the house, not jolt its way about. Unless a sharp shock here and there is purposely designed for effect.
