Renovation work installation of solid surface top

Renovation work : installing solid surface top onto a kitchen cabinet

I wanted to give you an idea how solid surface top for kitchen cabinet are being install. Many people though solid surface is prepare at the factory and just deliver and put on the kitchen cabinet. It take about 5 to 7 days working days from measurement to installing the solid surface top on the job site.

Before the solid surface top can be install onto the kitchen cabinet, template of the kitchen cabinet top needed to be measure and bring back to factory for fabrication. At the factory the fabricator base on the template of the solid surface top then cut and fabricated customize the solid surface top to suit the kitchen cabinet. Solid surface material only come in 600mm x 3000mm -/+ in another word anything longer then the standard size it needed 2 pieces to join together using special bonding agent.

As you can see from the pictures the solid surface top is first align and level with the cabinet using a level ruler. After everything being align and level, the 2 pieces of solid surface top then apply the special bonding agent onto the gap clam together and leave it to dry and harder.

After half and hour or so the clams are remove and the solid surface then grind and polish to perfection.

Note:

I always get compliant from home owners say that they can see the gap between the 2 pieces of solid surfaces. The standard guideline to check on the gap is acceptable or not is to stand 1m apart from the join and look at the line if the line can’t be seen it considering acceptable.

The construction team and interior design

I was at my site yesterday and it was super damn hot in the afternoon and my shirt was wet after the 2 hours under the sun.

Anyway can you tell which one is me? Silly me of cos you can….

They are the most hard working workers i ever see. I do not see them complaining about their work and they don’t take 1 hour time break. As you can see they are preparing the metal structure which is part of the footer foundation. If you notice from the picture where i stand behind is the structure column i going to remove and in order to remove this structure from the building The P.E suggest a new reinforcement I beam and a column with the footer support are being constructed.

Getting ideas for floor tiles pattern

I’ve been busy looking for new ideas for laying of outdoor tiles pattern. today i happen to be at a food court and i saw something interesting which caught my attention. The design of it make up of forming pebble and copper bar forming the outline shape of the flower paddle. It definitely will help me with the floor pattern design for the car porch i going to design.

As a interior designer i never stop looking for ideas outside my circle of work and when you step out and look around sometime you can find some interesting ideas for your house design.

My friend the tiler and me

This is a picture of my tiler friend (Mr foo) and me taken at the job site he working on. I told him that i wanted to take some pictures he actually hand on and this for my blog.

He got a group of workers working under him and most of the time i only saw him talking and giving instruction. This is the first time i witness him hand on working on laying the floor tiles.

He asked me to help to mix the cement for him …… help me to take some picture for my blog. He must be crazy I not prepare as i not wear to work.

The sky is getting dark and they need to finish job fast….. Not a moment to waste as the rain is coming. They finish the portion quickly.

Renovation work lady tiler on the job

As an interior designer and a site coordinator for so many years hardly seen a lady tiler in this trade. I was surprise to see a lady tiler at my job site. This trade is dominate by the male species …………..

I have a chat with her and i found out she has been working as a tiler for many along with her husband. I noticed that she is able to do most of the job which man done.

Renovation work – Taking the challenge laying of wall tile

Hey ,

Wow…! Surprise…. I’m actually trying to lay wall tiles for the first time. i wanted to has a feel of the job since sometime back and finally got the chance to try it. Here are some take by my worker when i trying it out. It not too difficult nor it is an easy job to lay tiles. The tiler demonstrated and show my how the job being done and after that i took up the piece of tile and with some assistance guiding me how to lay the wall tile. It is important to take alignment and adjust it so that it align with the rest of the tiles.

Are you up to the challenge ? Maybe I can arrange something for you. Cheers!

Renovation work Outdoor coy pond water feature design

Many weeks had past and very soon the coy pond water feature will be finish. The whole reconstruction of the coy pond is done by this gentleman. He had been working on the coy pond water feature for the pass few weeks.

And Wow la…………….This is the final product of his work.

This afternoon I asked him to pose for me for a picture and he was delighted. He actually pose for me. . he has been working in Singapore for almost 5 to 8 years.

Good and hardworking helper are hard to find. and he is one of the few good helper i seen.

Renovation @ riverina Scaffolding getting ready for painting

I have been very busy on Riverina Project and here are some takes on the project during scaffolding construction. It was interesting to stay and watch the scaffolding workers at work and most of the workers are almost 50 or above 50 years old. and how graceful they move from pole to pole assembling all the poles together.

Carpentry works for Fairmount Condominium

Those are pictures are taken just after the carpenters had finish the installation of the wall feature with tv console and shoe cabinet. you may remember i post the 3D perspective designs a week ago. i might have change the colour and the design a bit after discussing with the client.

After the carpentry work, next is the polishing of the parquet flooring for 2 bedrooms and then the cleaning and washing of the unit

Hand over the unit to the client this week.

Landscaping outdoor wall feature with coy pond

I have been very busy with few of my renovation site for this past week. Here are some images taken at riverina job site when the workers removing the stones from the surrounding of the pond. The coy fishes were removed before hand in the morning.

The pictures were taken in the afternoon when I’m back at the riverina site with the clients discussing addition renovation works for the house.

The worker came and told us that they broken the hammer during removing of the stone and I can’t stop laughing. Either that they are very strong which broke the hammer or the stone is too tough for the hammer. Anyway they have to stop work. probably they need a breaker machine to remove the rest of the stone feature from the pond.
